Fun Tips for Celebrating Your Kid’s Birthday Party During Lockdown

June 12, 2020

These days, parents may be finding it difficult to plan their kid’s birthday party what with the ongoing lockdown. Most popular spots for birthday parties, such as indoor playgrounds, have been temporarily closed to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Kids may be feeling dejected that they can’t get to spend time at their favourite indoor playgrounds during this time. However, there are still many things you can do at home to help make your kid’s birthday party memorable.

Here are some fun ideas for birthday activities you can do at home:

1. Online party with virtual games

These days, technology is making it easier for us all to connect. With services like Skype, Zoom, and even Facebook’s video calling service, you can gather all of your kid’s friends and family for a get-together online. Many games can be played together online, such as Pictionary, Taboo, or something less traditional such as online video games. Furthermore, you can employ the services of an entertainer to host your party online. There are many such services, where the host will dress up as a character from a kids’ show such as a Disney princess.

2. Bouncy castles

If it’s playgrounds your child really misses, why not rent a bouncy castle? It is a safe, at-home alternative to an indoor playground. This way, you can emulate the space of places such as Jungle Land, while still keeping your child at home. The best part is that you can join your child in the bouncy castle as well! Let loose and spend some quality time with them during your kid’s birthday party.

3. Birthday messages

One of the biggest challenges of the lockdown is the inability to interact with our friends. Your child will feel the difficulties of this especially on their special day. You can ease the challenge by having your neighbours, friends, and family send in personalized messages, preferably written out in large cards or paper, for you to hang around the house. This way, your child will awake on their birthday to see their home decorated in messages from loved ones.

This can be a really challenging time for everyone, but there are many things that can be done in the meantime to soothe the transition until things start opening up. At the very least, you can tell your child they will have a lot to look forward to, such as being able to visit their favorite indoor playground again soon!
